In schools of Bodrum tomorrow, Wednesday, the mutual teaching program of weaving art

Athens

The “Sacred Art of Weaving in Crete Today” will be transmitted tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22, by the students of the European Education School to the students of the 2nd and 5th Primary Schools of Halikarnassos.

This is another educational action carried out within the framework of the “Penelope Gandhi” mission by the University of the Mountains in collaboration with the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education of the University of Crete and the School of European Education of Heraklion.

” The aim and goal of “Penelope Gandhi” is to bring back the art of weaving with traditional workshops in Cretan homes ,” says Mrs. Varvara Terzakis-Pallikaris to “Vima” , whose vision was the revival of the “workshops”.

Thus, at the 5th Primary School of Bodrum, students from all three schools will have the opportunity from 9.00 in the morning until 2.00 in the afternoon to learn through videos, a theatrical play, a dramatization of the fairy tale “Penelope Gandhi”, singing and dancing about the educational visits and actions that have been implemented so far within the framework of the “Penelope Gandhi” mission, and to discuss the personality of Mahatma Gandhi through working groups.

” Children will have the opportunity to see up close a traditional weaving workshop, such as those that held a prominent place in Cretan homes, as well as to construct “The Mesh of Friendship” and “The Spider’s Web”, ” Mrs. Terzakis pointed out to “Vima”.

Simultaneously with the revival of the art of weaving today, through this program, students and young people from the urban fabric come into contact with their peers from schools in the countryside, exchanging ideas and experiences.

Raising awareness among people, cities and the countryside, and developing small-scale economies, through personal engagement and high-value production.
